I think that Nike focus its attention to the market of black people, because they are very atletic people, they are stronger, taller than white people, and in the case of basketball they are very good players.
Nike give them an oppotunity to get close to being a bit like the players they admire, not only basketball players, but also football players, runers, etc.
I think using Nike footweare distinguishes the black people, white people use Nike as well, but its more common to see black people wearing them.
